Chapter 3

New Friend

Samuel Boateng, a junior investigator at the NIA, overheard the whole conversation between Mr. Norman and Reece because his office was opposite Reece’s, and he decided to check up on Reece.

He walked into Reece’s office while the door was open and knocked on the opened the door to attract his attention.

Reece, upon seeing him, asked, “Can I help you?”

Samuel replied, “I overheard Mr. Norman yelling and wanted to check up on you because you looked tense.” “Wait!” he exclaimed, “Aren’t you the new guy, Reece, right? I’ve heard a lot about you. Nice meeting you,” as he stretched his hands to shake him, which Reece calmly accepted and responded by shaking hands with him.

Samuel then offered to help Reece, and they both sorted out the case files together. When they were done sorting them out, they took them to Samuel’s office, since he had a fax machine, and quickly faxed all the files to Mr. Norman.

Samuel, after all the work, then said to Reece, “I think we could work together. After all, two heads are better than one. Work smarter, not harder, right?”

“Yeah, I guess you’re right.”

The clock struck one, and it was lunchtime. Samuel’s tummy began to rumble, and the two laughed.

“Let’s go get something to eat to silence these stomachs,” said Samuel.

They took the stairs to be able to talk more and get to know each other better.

When they got to the third floor, they met Ms. Elizabeth, who had just come out of her office with the intention of going to find something to eat.

Samuel, being a friendly fellow, invited her to join them, which made Reece feel very uncomfortable and a bit jealous as well. They crossed over from the office to a food j****, which was located opposite the office. When they got there, they ordered their food, sat down, and ate it.

Reece tried to start a conversation with Elizabeth but didn’t know where to start because it had been a long while since they met or spoke, and having a crush on her made it more difficult for him. Samuel noticed this from Reece’s face and tried to help by introducing them to each other without knowing that they knew each other already.

“Reece, this is Elizabeth, Reece,” he introduced them to each other. He was surprised that they knew each other already and tried to find out their past, but none of them were willing to talk, so he gave up. After they had finished eating, Samuel paid for the meals, and they thanked him and went back to their offices.

Work eventually closed, and it was time for Reece to head home. Samuel walked him to the bus station in order to show him around the area. They exchanged contact information at the bus stop in order to stay in touch and then parted ways to their respective homes.
