I strolled out to the backyard and settled into one of the sunbeds beside the pool. Retrieving my pack of cigarettes, I lit one, my gaze drifting upward to the balcony where Althaia’s room was.
My Nonna had made it abundantly clear that I should steer clear of Althaia’s room in the evening because, according to her, the Devil would lure and tempt us into committing unimaginable sins.
Too bad that indulging in those forbidden desires was my favorite sin when it came to the love of my life.
I was well aware she was keeping a watchful eye on me, which was why I was out here, killing time and waiting for her to fall asleep. That woman never ceased to treat me like a boy instead of the man I had become.
“Why is my son sitting out here by himself?” My mother approached, wearing her usual warm smile.
“I’m waiting for Nonna to fall asleep.” I said, taking another drag as she settled on the sunbed in front of me.
