Chapter 124. Escape

Just as the guard bends over, I grab hold of his bat and whirl it on him. He has just enough time to register surprise on his face before he goes down. The servants who came for Riley’s body are too shocked to scream, and they back away, their hands raised in surrender.
I leave them be for now and search the guard. As I suspected, he’s stupid enough to have the keys to my cuffs.
I unlock them and throw the keys to the ground, taking one last look at the servants. They’re plastered against the wall and one has wet his pants, so I turn to assess the exit route, a hallway leading to the main door.
Now that I’m no longer chained in silver, I reach out to Ainslee to repeat what I’d tried to tell her earlier about our son.
All that is needed now is to escape this hell-hole and get to the north. Not knowing how many guards I’ll face on the other side, I put on the guard’s bloody uniform and sprint up to the dungeon door.
