Chapter 171. Let’s fake date
June POV
Back at the hospital, Ted was already waiting for us near the entrance. Meanwhile, my insides felt like wet cement.
God. I thought I was close—so close—to getting him back.
But of course not.
His body remembers, but his heart? His heart is still rebooting on factory settings.
I let out a disappointed sigh and walk faster, the frustration boiling so loud I can practically hear it.
“June—June…” Hermes calls, practically jogging after me. “Okay, June, I remember…”
I stop.
Slowly.
Like someone unplugged the batteries in me.
My face stays neutral—flat, tired, dangerously close to cracking. I’m exhausted from hoping, then watching that hope shatter into tiny irretrievable pieces.
“I really remember, June!” he insists. “You and I… we’re work boyfriend and girlfriend.”
A weak laugh slips out before I can stop it, muffled behind my lowered gaze.
Of course we were that.
We were many things.
