“Should I inform the team leaders to come—” she starts, but I lift a finger to cut her off.

“Don’t.”

I asked for this, now I have to sit in it.

“There’s still time. Let’s not rush them,” I mutter, finally taking a seat.

She nods politely. “You’re right, Mr. Grande. Why don’t I review the slides I prepared while we wait?”

Her voice is smooth and that unfamiliar tone again.

Why is she acting different?

She’s watching me, waiting for answer, but I can’t handle that right now.

“Okay,” I nod weakly, turning to my phone.

But then I raise my gaze just as the projector whirs to life, casting light across the room and illuminating the first slide.

But I don’t look at the screen, instead I look at her.

She’s tapping her tablet, focused, and composed, and then it happens.

In my head, the room goes dark, every light vanishes, except the projector, and she’s standing beneath it, wearing only my white shirt again
