I was driving along the highway when I noticed the black luxury car behind me, keeping pace a little too consistently to be a coincidence. Suspicion crept through me, and without wasting time weighing my options, I turned off onto a secluded road that wound up toward Hill Mountain.

If someone really was following me, I wanted the advantage of choosing the ground we’d meet on.

My heart pounded as I pulled my car into a stretch of desolate road hemmed in by dense brush. I stayed inside for a moment, steadying myself, preparing for whatever waited outside.
