The bitch stood with her arms crossed and smiled at us. The tension in the air was enough to smother us. Reaching out, she gripped Damon’s injured arm until the man whimpered beneath the assault, but he didn’t fight back.
“Let him go, Clarise,” I snarled. My voice wasn’t the timid little wolf I had been before. Instead my dragon and wolf added to the swirling rage inside. “I want to talk to him.”
Clarise laughed. “Let him go?” she parroted with a giggle. “Oh, dear, Karina. You have no idea the storm you’ve set into motion. Why would I ever reward a disgrace such as you? Especially when you don’t know your place, trash.”
“Please,” I insisted. “I just need to talk to him. He’s hurt, and it’s important.”
“Clarise!” Boomed a voice nearby. I turned to inspect the unfamiliar man as he beamed at her. “Is this the little bride to be?” he gestured at me, his robes sliding with the motion.
What was he doing wearing something so strange?
