“So… I have some new gossip for you!” Doc Ken whispered to me, overly energetic. He sat beside me on the bench in the on-call room, as if he were also a nurse with the privilege to hang out here anytime or for as long as he wanted.

It was already 11:30 PM. My shift had just ended, and I had almost just called Lee. I called her because I wanted to check on her.
