Chapter 23
Stanley was in his study, looking at a new proposal from a new client. While reading, he suddenly wondered what Maxine and Heather were doing. So, he walked toward Heather’s room and saw his daughter soundly asleep. A smile glimpsed on his lips. Since Maxine wasn’t there, he thought she might be in their bedroom. Upon approaching their room, he suddenly heard her loud, angry voice talking to someone on her phone.
Stanley could only think of one person who could upset his wife,—Maureen. He rushed to enter and grabbed the phone from her in anger.
“Don’t you dare do anything, Maureen. You try to hurt my wife; I won’t hesitate to put you in jail.” After Stanley placed the phone angrily, he embraced Maxine.
“I’m sorry, Hon. Whatever she said to you, ignore it. I won’t let anything happen to you,” he thoughtfully said as he brushed Maxine’s hair.
“I’m not afraid of her, Hon. I just don’t want her to come near Heather. She’s too crazy,” Maxine said and looked at Sta
