Chapter 52. Gamble
Yet, strangely, Hubert could discern their excitement—or rather their enthusiasm, akin to greeting a king arriving for their redemption. It appeared they were still under the delusion that Hubert was their zombie king due to his emitted scent, and they sought to submit to him. That worked out splendidly, and nothing could be better than having two fourth-rank zombies submissive.
Hubert commanded: "Silence, and step back."
The two zombies seemed to understand what Hubert was saying. Indeed, they ceased their rattling against the iron bars, retreated backward, and sat down hunched over on the ground. Using their fingers, they started to sketch something in the dirt as if wallowing in self-pity.
Hubert was utterly puzzled. Were these level-four zombies? Why did they appear more like two sulking bears than zombies monsters? Even though they were supposed to be obedient, their reactions were more instinctual than conscious, so there was always a risk of them
