His Last Wish
TERRA'S POV:
"Girl, you were so awesome. You literally had all the girls in there staring at you with jealousy. If I may add, you looked beautiful while at it."
My friend since senior year of high school, Evelyn, praised me as we exited out of the studio carrying our changing bags with us. I gave her a small smile in response, as she had no idea that I put my whole energy and passion into it because I was stressed out.
"Like I literally can't believe you are dancing with only the basics from fifth grade. You're really amazing for real, I'm so happy to call you my bestieeee." She continued, holding onto my arms as we headed outside.
"You were amazing too, thank you for inviting me here today." I smiled warmly at her, like I also do. Everyone around me often pointed out that I always had a smile on my face so it was hard to read me, and it was true. I only shed tears when it was too much for me and only got angry when I had reached a limit or after much disrespect.
"And because we have been friends for so long, I know there's something bothering you. So spill it." She folded her arms across her chest telling me to go on. I sighed deeply, chuckling at her facial expression, her beautiful freckles she was once insecure about coming into light under the sunlight. Before I could utter a word, a familiar all black Bentley truck pulled up into the compound.
"My ride's here." I pointed and she rolled her eyes in a full circle removing her pink hair pack in order to let down her goldish-brown hair.
"We are still going to talk about this but let me check if my favorite person in the world is in there." She smiled heading straight to the car and I giggled following behind her.
"He's back at home resting. Just go home or go to your betrothed's house." She bucked at me and I did the same, making her laugh.
"Alright then, bye sweetheart. I will call you or come around tomorrow to check up on you." She hugged me and I exhaled deeply realizing I had really needed a hug these past few days.
We bid each other goodbye and the driver opened the door to the back seat for me. I muttered a thank you before taking a seat and placing my bag on the seat. I blinked repeatedly as the car zoomed off, I was headed straight to my grandfather's mansion. I had arrived back in the states a few days ago and I had been spending time with my grandfather whom I loved more than anything in the world.
I had been worried about him as he seemed ill on some days but covered it up perfectly. The only reason I even suspected he was sick was when I barged into the kitchen at midnight and met him trying to drink a glass of water but his hand kept shaking. He told me it was due to old age but just the thought of my grandfather passing scared me and had me sad.
I scrolled through my phone until we finally arrived at the front of his luxurious mansion. I smiled thanking the driver then headed straight into the house.
"Welcome Miss Terra, your grandfather has requested for you to join him for brunch at the patio." One of the maids, Mardy, said and I went ahead to the patio. As soon as I arrived there, I met my grandfather sipping out of the glass of red wine and strolling around the swimming pool.
"Hey grandpa." I greeted, announcing my presence and he turned around giving me a bright smile displaying the laugh lines next to his eye and wrinkles on his face as he smiled.
"My beautiful, favorite granddaughter. How are you? Where did you go today?" He asked, strolling back to his seat while I took a seat next and began to munch on the food displayed on the table.
"I'm okay but I'm worried about you." He smiled lovingly as I pouted.
"You're just like me, you know? We care about everyone around us and smile so brightly no one can see what's underneath the smile. Plus you might not know this but I used to dance." I laughed, raising my eyebrow in questioning.
"Really?"
"For Broadway at that, and packing all the girls. Your grandmother used to be so jealous." I just smiled looking at him in disbelief.
"I want you to be happy with or without me here. I want you, my beautiful grand-daughter, to be with someone who will take care of you even when I'm no longer here." He spoke and my heart began to grow heavy.
"Don't speak like that grandpa. You're talking and behaving like you're going somewhere soon." He gave me a look that basically said, "Just look at me."
My eyes watered but he placed his hand onto mine, making me stare into his eyes gazing at his aged features, "Don't cry sweetie, what does grandpa hate seeing the most?"
"Seeing me sad." I responded, wiping my eyes with my free hand after a moment of utter silence.
"Exactly, just smile, be happy and live. Tonight, we are meeting with the Andersons and guess who is coming?" He said teasingly and I laughed rolling my eyes playfully.
"Ross will be coming tonight." I knitted my eyebrow making a stank face.
"Grandpa, I don't even like him anymore and don't tell me, you and Grandpa Philip are still trying to ship us after I have been crushing on him for years and he had ignored me all while."
Ross was a handsome man, I mean I hadn't seen him in years, but I had only seen him in magazines and he was a Greek god. I had made jokes to Evelyn that 'he was my man' but I didn't really mean it. It was just like seeing a handsome celebrity and claiming him.
"Yes. And as much as I want your happiness, I strongly believe Ross will be the right person to take care of you, love and make you happy if the world says it's my time to leave. So what do you say Terr, to get married to ROSS ANDERSON?"
My eyes went wide and shock was written on my face. Marriage?
My grandfather coughed removing his hand from on top of mine and when he checked his hand, my eyes watered seeing blood in his hand.
"Grandpa…" I called out trying to reach out to him but he shook his head.
"I really don't have much time left, I am dying and I have only a short time left but before I die, I want to make sure you're safe and your happiness is secure. I really need you to marry him for my sake, so I can rest in peace." His voice was weak and tears were falling from eyes.
Without giving it a second thought I said, "Yes, Grandpa, I will marry him. I will marry ROSS ANDERSON."
