"Director, can he really do that? Keep me away from my job?" Fred queried.

"Fred, in case you haven't noticed, in a way, he's my boss too. If he says don't show up until 6:30 AM, I wouldn't dare show up at 6:29. Although, I hear Fort Knox is quite lovely this time of year," the director replied dryly.

Fred grinned. "Wouldn't mind a stint at Fort Knox."

"You'd be going to Fort Knox as an inmate. Mowing lawns, painting buildings, sidewalks, and curbs. If you're lucky, they might let you paint the water tower," the director added with a chuckle.

"Thanks for that vivid imagery, Director," Fred remarked wryly. "Guess I'll toe the line, even if it feels unfair and restricts my rights as a government employee."

"Sharon's already imposed her own restrictions on your workweek, Fred. No working Saturdays and Sundays," the director chimed in.
