Jenny and Audrey sprawled across Hazel’s plush carpet, sharing stories about their latest Tinder disasters. I kept quiet, sipping my drink and letting their chatter wash over me.

“And then he had the audacity to ask if I wanted to split the check after he ordered the most expensive steak on the menu,” Jenny groaned, waving her glass for emphasis. “Like, hello? You invited me!”

“At least yours showed up,” Audrey countered. “Mine texted five minutes before saying his ‘energy wasn’t aligned with the universe tonight’ and he needed to ‘recalibrate his chakras.’”

I snorted into my drink. “What does that even mean?”

“It means he found someone hotter to hook up with,” Hazel said, refilling everyone’s glasses except mine. She gave me a questioning look, but I covered my drink with my hand.

“One’s my limit tonight. I have those project proposals to review tomorrow.”

Jenny rolled her eyes. “Your boss is a slave driver.”
