Chapter 5
“Shocking at two hundred joules. Everybody, stand clear.”
Yves pulled back as the nurse operating the defibrillator pushed a button, sending an electric shock to Glenn’s heart that jolted his motionless body.
“Shock delivered. Resume CPR.”
Another nurse swooped in to continue the compressions; each pump thudded Yves’ heart as if he were the one receiving the cardiopulmonary resuscitation. They had been trying to revive Glenn for the past seventeen minutes, but they were yet to get a pulse.
From across one corner of the room, Yves caught Timothy’s stare as he stood there, detached from them. He was not a part of the team, but his presence in the room kept Yves’ emotions at bay. Yves took over with compression again after a minute and ignored the strain on his arm muscles, not losing hope.
“Let’s do a pulse check.”
“He has a pulse with compression!” the physician announced, his fingers to Glenn’s carotid vein, eyes on the cardiac monitor. “Hold CPR,
