The warmth of the afternoon sun barely filtered through the windows of our room, but I could feel the coldness in Damon’s demeanor more than anything. He was distant again, not physically, but in the way his eyes didn’t hold mine for too long, in the way his jaw clenched when he thought I wasn’t looking.
He was worried.
There was something bothering him and he was doing his best to keep it from me. He was doing his best to mind himself, to keep himself contained.
Something had shifted, and I didn’t know what it was. But whatever it was, it was bothering him more than he would want to let out.
“Damon,” I said softly, stepping closer to him as he stood by the balcony, staring into nothingness. “What’s going on? Talk to me, Damon. Whatever it is that is bothering you, let me in just as I am letting you in.”
