I watched them from the edge of the training yard, arms crossed, my shoes planted in the dirt. The sun was almost gone now, just a low, burning ember bleeding across the horizon. I hadn’t meant to overhear their conversation. Hell, I hadn’t even planned to walk by. But there was something about the stillness between them that made me stop.
