The moment the door shut behind her, I stood in the middle of the room, fists clenched so tightly my knuckles ached.
The silence that followed her departure was deafening.
I could still hear her words echoing in my mind.
“I stopped expecting anything from you a long time ago.”
She had said it so calmly. So… resolutely. And that hit harder than any slap could have.
The door was knocked, taking me off guard, snapping me out of my thoughts. I glared out it for a moment as I caught the scent of one of the maids. Of course she was going to take care of Isla and her mother went to work.
My daughter’s mother, a pack Luna, was going to be working in an office, one without flexible hours, one that paid minimum wage simply to be stubborn while our daughter was being taken care of by a maid.
“Alpha, I came to take the little child.” The maid said, and I glared at her. She looked down at her feet before walking towards Isla’s bassinet
