The moment I stepped back into the house after my discharge from the infirmary, I could feel it.
Tension.
Thick. Unspoken. Heavy.
The house was wrapped around anger, hate, and for a moment I found myself wondering if it was the same place that I left, if it was the same home that I was in before I took that bullet.
All the hate wrapped around the pack house like a fog, settling in the corners of every room, especially in the one where Evelyn stood, arms crossed, lips pursed, as she gave one of the maids instructions to change the sheets in the guest wing. She barely looked at me when I walked in.
