I cleaned the cut that was on my fingers and shook my head as I recalled what happened.

The fact that I found the man waiting for us was something that annoyed me. 

It only showed me that he wanted me to find him. The Bernardi were playing a dangerous game, and that was something that they all knew, but the consequence that would follow what they were doing was going to be lethal. And their assassin’s head being sent to them in a box, when they initially expected it to be mine, would be direct proof of it.

However, for now, that was the last thing that I was concerned about.

It was clear to me that they were not going to leave without that woman, whoever she was, being found, and the fact that someone, one of them, was hiding the way that she was, in my territory, was causing more of a stir than I would like. And I knew that it would be a matter of time before hell broke loose and things grew more complicated.
