Katarina's POV

Nine months ago...

“Happy birthday, Kate,” I smiled at his words before turning around and giving him the biggest hug.

“Lucien!”

He chuckled in my arms and spun us around as I giggled.

“How have you been?” his voice still as fresh as breeze and soft talking to me. I could not believe he was finally here.

Two months, he had been gone for two months now. I was anxious if he was going to show up on my birthday today or not.

“Finally,” I breathed in placing my hands over my hips and I playfully glared at him. “Now you’re showing me your ridiculous face after two months? Where have you been, Lucien? I missed you, you dimwit,” I said, glancing at his direction.

“You’re aware of the reason, Katarina.” He replied, the amusement leaving his tone replaced with stiff words.

“How was your trip? Did you find something?” I asked, looking at his face.
