The moon hung low and covered over the treetops, casting silver light across the estate grounds. But its beauty was lost on me tonight.
I stood at my window, staring into the dark, heart pounding in my chest like a war drum. Every shadow below looked like a threat. Every movement of the guards felt like an accusation.
Jaxon knows.
I didn’t have proof, not really. But the way he’d looked at me earlier, cold, sharp, like a blade pressed to my throat told me enough.
Either Celina had spoken. Or Talon. Someone had tild him. Or maybe… maybe Jaxon had simply pieced it together. He wasn’t a fool. Jaxon must’ve heard about the votes.
And now… now he was hunting her.
