Chapter 13
Maeve’s POV
The night air was alive with the hooting of owls and the chirping of insects, and the full moon beamed down in all its glory, lighting every path and step I took. After what felt like hours, I realized I was hopelessly lost, pacing in endless circles.
Where the hell am I now? I thought, bewildered. I broke into a run, heading north in hopes of finding a trail out of this damn, forsaken forest.
Suddenly, I skidded to a stop. Though I still hadn’t discovered my wolf, my hearing was unusually sharp. I wasn’t alone—someone else was here.
My heart hammered as I clutched the small dagger I carried like a lifeline. I’d wandered into these woods by myself at night, and instinctively I knew whatever—or whoever—lurks here did not mean me well.
“Hello? Is there anyone out there?” I called, spinning around in the darkness.
