Ember’s POV

Nate deflected her first attack, but he didn’t have time to shift to his wolf and as she launched her second attack time seemed to stand still.

I could hear the furious shouts of Rae and Josh behind me as I watched helplessly Nate knock one of her arms out of the way but miss the hand that reached upwards swiftly, brandishing a dagger that sank through the flesh of his chest as easily as a knife cutting through butter.

My scream of devastation as a burning pain radiated across my chest mingled with his roar of pain as he reached weakly for Magda’s face, his fingers clawing hopelessly as she brought her free hand to join the other on the hilt of the dagger and twisted.

Nate stiffened slightly before sinking to the floor, the dagger still embedded in his chest as she turned her attention to me with a delighted grin.

“It looks like it’s just me and you now 42, and I don’t think your little friends will reach you in time.”
