Chapter 45
But Marcus isn’t like me, and I take a deep breath as I decide whether to go up to his office on the twenty-sixth floor. On one hand, he hasn’t waited for me and hasn’t returned my messages. All the evidence points to him wanting to be alone, and I understand that.
On the other hand, what he wants may not be the most important thing. He recently makes me very angry and I also want him to leave me alone. But he follows me to make sure I’m okay.
And I’m very much afraid that right now he is far from okay.
I thank Joe for his help, then take a seat on one of the chrome-and-leather benches in the lobby. I send Marcus another message and cross my fingers.
It’s no use, and after forcing myself to sit and wait five minutes, I make up my mind. It may be selfish, but I want to see him. In fact, I need to see him. I need to know he’s okay.
More than that, I need to know that we’re okay. That despite all this bullshit, Marcus and Gabriela are going to be okay.
