Chapter 85
Our destination, the law firm of Bender, Twain & McGuire, occupies three floors of 2049 Century Park East, one of Century City’s two iconic triangular towers known as the Century Plaza Towers. They loom before us, bright against the night sky, as Marcus drives his beloved black Porsche down Santa Monica Boulevard, the most direct route from my apartment.
I have always loved these towers—their clean, elegant lines and the soft sheen of the aluminum façade. They truly shine against the blue California sky. But even after dark, they stand as monuments to the power and prestige of this neighborhood and the people who live and work here.
“I would have liked to meet him,” Marcus says, nodding toward the towers.
“You mean Yamasaki?”
Marcus laughs. “I should have assumed you’d know. Along with Frank Lloyd Wright, Minoru Yamasaki is one of the people I always invite to dinner in that game.”
“The ‘who would you seat at your table, dead or alive’ game?”
