The countess smiled at me and removed the sharp crystal I was holding. She ceased it into dust before holding both of my hands. 

“I want to thank you for everything,” she said.

“When the prophecy was broken, it freed you,” I said. “Then does it mean I was successful with my mission? Even though I have not found the magic crystal?” 

“Madeline…” she said. “Did you really think I would let history repeat itself?”
