True to their word, within minutes of him returning to his quarters, a knock sounded on the door. When Alaric opened it, a servant wheeled in a cart laden with food. The aromas of roasted meats, fresh bread, and a rich stew filled the room, making his stomach rumble even more.
"Thank you," Alaric said as the servant set the tray on a table. The warmth of the meal seemed to chase away any lingering discomfort from the journey. He sat down, eagerly digging in, all the while thinking about how much smoother things had gone than he expected.
