Chapter 41
I looked up at Benjamin, my vision blurred from the tears that refused to stop. They stung my eyes, hot and relentless, spilling over no matter how many times I blinked them back. My chest rose and fell too fast, every breath catching halfway as though something heavy pressed against my lungs.
The silence between us was unbearable. Only the sound of my own uneven breathing filled the room. Finally, I forced the words out, my voice breaking apart like cracked glass.
“What are we going to do now?”
The question trembled in the air, fragile and desperate.
Benjamin lifted his gaze to mine, and I almost wished he hadn’t. The exhaustion etched into his features made my heart twist.
He rubbed the back of his neck slowly before answering, “There is no way you can terminate it.”
