Chapter 61
He ended the call quickly, sliding his phone into his pocket as he walked toward me. His face looked guilty, his voice calm but strained.
“Hey, it’s not what you think,” Benjamin said, his hand reaching slightly toward me as if he could soften the moment.
I felt my chest tighten. My stomach was still turning from what I had overheard. The words slipped out of me sharp and fast, “What is your problem with him? Why do you want to know about him when I already told you we are just friends?”
His jaw moved as if he was holding back. “I’m not doing this because I feel like you have something else going on,” he said carefully. “I’m doing it because I told you I feel like I know him from somewhere, and I have a bad feeling about it. That was the reason I asked about his information, just to be safe.”
I let out a bitter laugh and rolled my eyes. “You’re doing too much. And I don’t like it.” My voice shook, not because I doubted myself, but because anger burned inside
