“That’s a three-year age difference,” he said after a moment. “To be frank… I understand Charlotte.”
I nodded, the agreement tasting sour.
“I expected that statement. The man is supposed to be the older one.”
“But,” he continued, “you protected her back there. And before tonight, you two were together without issues. I think you should talk to her again. She might just be shocked—she doesn’t know how to deal with the information yet.”
“I don’t think that’s the problem,” I said quietly.
“Trust me, it is. Charlotte loves you—I can say that. Be patient with her.”
He paused, then added carefully, “She might be afraid of what people will say. Of how it’ll look. You’re a public figure, which means a lot of pressure will be on her. People will bully and mock her for dating someone younger.”
“I will make sure no one dares to bully or mock her.”
