Alone, shirtless, and nursing another headache, Jenson shut his stinging eyes under the dull heat of the sunset. His face stayed warmer than his torso, but the glass of whiskey in his hand wasn't to blame.
Unlike New York's, the weather out here was a tad too pleasant this time of the year. Encouraging. Calming, too.
Yet the silence around him did nothing to lull his thoughts. Jenson lounged beside the pool and swigged down his drink. The alcohol seared the back of his throat before the slow burn in his chest sank into his gut. All too familiar—much like his lacking optimism.
Sleep eluded him all week. A hassle that forced him to limit incoming calls and his workload—something he wasn't used to doing.
The new assistant wasn't the issue. He had no valid reason to hate Jessi's replacement. He just needed some time alone. Some time to unplug and rest up. Sort out his thoughts. Be away from his responsibilities for a bit so
