“Izzy, I’m so happy you could come!” Scarlet smiled as I came from the kitchen into the living room.

“It’s nice to see everyone.” Although I was a little uncomfortable, I tried not to let it bother me.

“Who is this?” A confused young lady with brown eyes and dark red hair asked.

Scarlet rolled her eyes before turning back to face the woman.

“This is Isabelle, Elise. She’s a family friend of ours, she also happens to be Steel’s assistant.”

“It surprises me that we haven’t met earlier. I’m Elise, Steel’s girlfriend. How long have you known the Alvanov?”

I shook her hand to show my respect.

“For quite some time.”

“Yeah, she and Steel practically grew up together.” Scarlet had a mischievous look in her eyes as she spoke.

“Isabelle is like the big sister I never had.”

“Oh.” Not even a rocket scientist could have discerned Elise’s obvious irritation at my presence—especially in light of Scarlet’s remar
