Chapter 20
Odette
Odette had never been happier in her life, but she woke up feeling very groggy, felt like she’d slept for days, and had a dry mouth and a splitting headache. She was dehydrated, weakened, and could barely move. It felt familiar but also unfamiliar, the sensations in her body; it felt like she had a d*** hangover, like sedatives of some kind. She blinked as she lay on her back, slowly regaining feeling back into her limbs. When she could finally move slightly, she took in her surroundings.
She saw her clothes rack beside her, with all her favorite clothes, some boxes with bits and pieces, and an old wardrobe. She saw her extensive collection of shoes heaped on the other side of the bed in a sprawling pile. She still felt drowsy as she sat up in bed. It looked like her old boarding house room, with the cheap laminate desk at the front, her beat-up old laptop, and all her other belongings thrown in milk crates from moving around for so many years, not even unpa
