The night air was thick with the scent of burning metal and gunpowder.
The underground facility behind them was swallowed by flames, but Brandon barely noticed.
His grip on the steering wheel was tight enough to turn his knuckles white.
Jessica was in the back seat, slumped against Hannah, her breathing shallow. Lucas had done his best to patch her up, but she needed real medical attention—fast.
Teresa sat beside Brandon, her eyes darting between the rearview mirror and the road ahead. “We’re not safe yet,” she muttered.
Brandon already knew that.
He could feel it in his bones.
Bernardo wasn’t the type to go down that easily. Even as blood pooled around him in that facility, Brandon had seen the look in his eyes. That man didn’t believe in death. He believed in revenge.
And this wasn’t over.
Headlights suddenly flooded the road behind them.
“Damn it,” Lucas cursed, twisting in his seat. “They’re coming.”
