Chapter 13. Christening the Guest Wing
The guest wing was quiet, the hum of the AC the only sound as Beck dropped his duffel bag onto the bed. He yanked off his jacket, unbuttoning his shirt with sharp, jerky movements.
Jared leaned against the doorframe, watching him with that infuriating calm. “You’re going to rip the buttons off if you keep going at them like that.”
“Don’t start,” Beck muttered.
Jared tilted his head, his dark hair falling across his forehead. “You’re wound up more tightly than usual. Funny how no one who saw you today would have guessed so. Well, except Hayden, though.”
“Because I don’t like this,” Beck snapped, throwing the shirt onto the chair. His bare chest gleamed with sweat, muscles taut. “Being here. Watching him like that... watching her.”
Jared’s gaze softened. “You mean watching them.”
