Chapter 196
Alyssa POV
Only a mile or so out from the rendezvous point, War veers off the road and kills the headlights.
The world disappears into black.
No streetlights. No houses. Just the restless hush of wind in the trees and the low tick of the engine cooling.
He doesn’t say a word.
Simply jerks his chin toward the passenger door.
I remove my gun, get out, and follow War toward the back. Gravel crunches softly beneath my boots. He pops the rear door, reaches inside, and pulls out a pair of zip ties.
Then turns toward me.
I hesitate, biting my lip. “War... are you sure about this?”
We’ve gone over the plan—twice, maybe three times. He’s going to act like he’s turning me in for the bounty. Play the part. Talk his way into Silas’s inner circle and insist he’ll only hand me over to the man himself.
But both of us know the plan is more concept than script. Half of it depends on whatever War can improvise when we get there.
