Chapter 166

For the next couple of minutes I spent standing amidst the surreal silence, I took back everything I said about Adler honoring my request and killed every concern that had kept me up and distant.

Now that I thought of it, he never really answered. The conversation had gone like this...

"Promise you'll stay out of my way, Adler?"

"So, what do you want for dessert?"

I was more mad at myself for taking too long to figure out that this evening had Adler's name written on every sabotage.

The beeping metal detector, separation from Cade, and last but not least, the shadow in the hallway...I massaged my temple; at least he wasn't facing Cade directly.
