Chapter 43. Examine

"I'm afraid I can't." Veronica turned her head to the nurse calling her name and replied, "I'm taking a checkup, Jaxon. When I prove I'm not lying, I hope you won't bother my life any more than you already have."

She knew she could never hurt Jaxon's feelings, so instead, she tried to go as far away from him as possible. But after what Helene told her... everything is starting to crumble.

"What? Are you—"

"Goodbye." Veronica shut the phone after the nurse shouted her name many times. She went over to the nurse as soon as possible and left Morgan at the sofa inside the office.

While Veronica was waiting for her appointment at the office, she had feelings of confinement and unease. She had never considered the possibility that she might go here to have a checkup for such a stupid reason. She took a firm grip on the clothing on her body and coiled them into a ball. Despite this, she pushed herself to maintain a relaxed demeanor and talked to the doctor.
