Chapter 68. The Public Scandal (1)
RENEE
“What a beautiful elite little family reunion. Isn’t this lovely?”
The woman from the restroom spoke, her words dripping with phoniness and venom.
My heartbeat quickened as I watched her saunter casually towards where Robert and I were standing in the hall, whistling and clapping her hands maniacally, drawing the attention of everyone gathered.
My stomach churned with shock and anger, but I couldn't talk or move a muscle. I was stuck, frozen to the spot in Robert's arms, afraid to blink lest she noticed my fear.
But I did blink. My tear-stained lashes fluttered as I looked up at Robert, our gazes briefly meeting before he abruptly turned away, and his grip on my shoulders tightened, albeit painfully.
That expression on his face. He looked like someone who was forced to endure a painful and awkward situation. Like a student, who had just been caught doing something wrong and desperately wanted to flee.
