Chapter 48
Harper's POV
I wake to the feeling of the bed shifting beneath me, and for a moment, I forget where I am. The scent of Nathan’s shirt still lingers on my skin, soft and steady, but that comfort shatters the second I open my eyes and see Mark standing at the edge of the mattress.
“Right,” he says sharply, his eyes hard and expectant. “You’ve had sleep. Now talk.”
I blink against the light streaming through the blinds, still foggy, still heavy-limbed from exhaustion and everything else that’s been tearing me apart from the inside out. I shrug as I sit up slowly, trying to buy myself a few more seconds to think.
“I told you,” I say quietly, my voice hoarse. “I panicked. I thought someone was following me. That’s all.”
