Chapter 21
Emily’s POV
By the time we drove through the iron gates, the whole pack territory was awake.
Even though it was still dark, the yard was full of warriors. Some were running toward the training grounds. Others were climbing into black SUVs. Guards shouted orders near the border posts.
The rogue attack had shaken everyone. And maybe it should have. If rogues were bold enough to set a trap this close to the Alpha King’s pack, then nowhere was truly safe anymore.
Kane stopped the SUV in front of the packhouse. His hands stayed on the steering wheel for a moment, and through the rearview mirror, I saw his tense face. He looked like a man awaiting punishment.
“Here we are,” he said quietly.
Behind us, the second SUV pulled up to the entrance. Through the window, I watched Jessie and Tessa get out of the car and wait for me by the packhouse entrance, but I stayed frozen in my seat.
My body hurt. My hands were scratched. My legs ached.
