I looked up, staring at his face now that we were close enough.
And despite the darkness in the room, I could see brightly how this seem to torture him.
I swallowed and looked down on our now joined hands, feeling tingles from his calloused palms rubbing against my softer skin.
I closed my eyes briefly and inhaled a sharp breath.
“It’s because you’re holding yourself back,” I said silently. I looked back up at him, seeing how he was already looking. “Why? Why are you holding back?” I swallowed, my emotions starting to bubble. “You said you’re not supposed to have me. Is it because you already have someone betrothed to you? Is it because of your duties as king?”
My chest tightened at all the possible reasons why he couldn’t seem to just come to me openly. “I-I’m also tired of fighting, Titus. There are so many things that are confusing me.”
I closed my eyes briefly, trying to regain my control as I let my mind take over my anger and emotions.
