Aria

We step into the room just as the doctor is heading out.

“Remember, don’t let him get agitated,” he tells Lucas before slipping past us.

My eyes land on Marcus. He’s barely managing to sit upright, but his breathing is fast.

“Aria… you’re here. Please, come,” he waves weakly.

I glance at Lucas. He nods at me, so I take a deep breath and move toward the bed, stopping just beside it.

“Here.” Lucas pulls out a chair for me.

“Thanks,” I mumble, settling down.

Honestly, this is the first time I’ve ever been this close to Alpha Marcus. Even though he looks frail as hell right now, I can tell, back in the day, he was probably a total heartthrob.

Marcus studies me closely. “Aria, how are you feeling today?”

I keep my tone neutral. “I guess I’m fine.” Not about to start acting like we’re besties all of a sudden.

He exhales heavily. “First things first…I want to thank you.”
