Chapter 96. Pleasant Way To Wake Up

Wren POV

“Chirp, hey!” Ray’s voice comes in through the phone.

“Hi, Ray. How’re you? How’s Quincy?”

“I am exhausted with this baby,” she complains. “I need her out ASAP.”

“Four more weeks, you’re doing great.”

“That’s what I tell her everyday,” Ray mumbles, and I hear a small kissing sound before he concentrates on the call again. “When are you both returning?”

I raise my brows to Ezra across the room. 

“The day after tomorrow,” he mouths, and I repeat the words to Ray.

“That’s good,” he hums. “We’ve not heard anything from Reggie and his men but we’re still being cautious. I need to talk to you when you get back Wren.”

“Talk about what?”

“Mom.”

My lips fall open. “Mom? Has she…has she reached out? Why now?”

“She hasn’t. We can’t talk over the phone, so when you get back, okay?”

“O-okay,” I breathe, then let out a nervous chuckle. You’ve got me worried, though.”

“There’s nothing to worry about.
