"Didn't you promise Raven not to?" Laurence frowns, a reminder of the complexities of our alliances and the promises we've made.

"I didn't promise, I said I'd try." My words are tinged with defiance, unwilling to be bound by a pledge that threatens our safety.

"You can't kill him without getting everyone on our side first. We tried during the various galas but it wasn't enough. Lexcis, that'll mean war. And you can't protect anyone if you declare war." Laurence's rationale cuts through my anger, reminding me of the consequences of my actions.

I rub my hand over my eyes, trying to wipe the anger and irritation off of my face. "I know you're right but if I go to him, I'll kill him." The simmering rage within me threatens to boil over, fueled by the injustice of Arthur's actions.
