Chapter 17
Pearl didn't let herself think about how the things she discovered put away were familiar yet not, knock-offs that were just slightly off in their details. She didn't allow herself think about how seeing Finn do magic had jolted her to her core and, more importantly, thrilled her, as if her libido was reacting to a burst of power she hadn't felt anywhere else.
But she had far too much leeway to think about the clash between the pretty bedding and clothes in the trunks that lined the wall... and the wolf carcass that was nearby while she was so busy not thinking about all those things as she loaded her rucksack with extra provisions and strapped a dozen arrows on the outside.
But it wasn't just any old lycan, was it? She had used these blankets, worn these garments, and selected the now-broken trinkets. Almera, she thought, peering over at the still form, unsure if her feelings were sympathy, repulsion, confusion, or all of the above. Most likely the latter.
