Chapter 30

“Fiancé? What the hell is he talking about, Bell?” I screamed over the crowd of cheering people. And when I looked back at Chase, his eyes were searing into me. It didn’t deter me. My gaze burned right into his, confusion warring with sadness contorting the features on my face. His shoulders fell and his head dropped as he stepped forward, moving toward me.

The crowd was too thick, though, and besides that, Arabella had already started dragging me away, weaving through the mass of people and moving into the kitchen. She took me out the back door and pushed me towards her car. When we were close, I yanked my arm from her grip while she struggled to find her keys in her purse.

“You can't drive, Bell! You've been drinking!”

“No, no, it's fine. I haven't had that many,” she replied with her head still in her purse. A huge smile spread across her face when she pulled her keys out, dangling them in the air in triumph.

I shook my head at her. “I'm not getting in
