Incense appreciation banquets were rare and exquisite, only being held by the richest and the most powerful of the aristocratic officials that clutched the reins of either military or commanded huge resources and respect from scholars above skies.

An ounce of burning incense, if of marvelous quality was more expensive than feeding a hundred men in cavalry for a week thus it caused the gold treasury in noble families be drained to the brink. This was a gamble usually made by people either for two reasons- to impress the monarch as it paved a way to build further ties with nobles that can be beneficial to the Emperor or rather to display an open rebellion.

The reason was simple, because an Incense appreciation banquet was a pure display of one’s wealth and the connections thus palace spies usually reported the events of the ceremony to the emperor, if anything went out of place it would cause the heavenly monarch to be wary of the family at the end being leading to the doo
