When I first got to Esters', I was a mess on the inside. I felt like my only real family member had let me down. I knew Elise would be mad at me for lying to her, but I never thought she would get rid of me so quickly.

I didn't know what to say to her about the fact that I was a witch. I just thought that our bond would never break, so I didn't worry about it much. My dad told me that Elise's life would be in danger if I didn't hide this part of myself. Elise had to know that I would only keep secrets to protect her, but she never gave me a chance to explain.

Two days went by, and I wouldn't eat or get out of bed. Ester only had a small four-room cottage. A kitchen, living room, main bedroom, and spare bedroom. The spare room was about the size of Elise's closet, and it only had a single bed and a nightstand. I used my magic to keep all light from coming in through the small window, so it was always dark inside.
