Chapter 179. A Queen
Elise’s POV
“No, Dad!” Don’t do this, please! It’s not clear what you mean.” I grabbed my father’s shirt and begged him not to kill Owen while I was on my knees in front of him.
The King’s eyes went black, and he hit me in the face with his hand. Everyone in the crowd gasped when he suddenly hit me in the face. They yelled for the Wild King not to hurt their Queen.
My father swore at him for acting so quickly. He knew he couldn’t let his feelings get the best of him, but everyone knew he didn’t like being tested. I had to get something done.
“If you want to be Queen, kill this traitor, and you’ll get the crown. Show our people you’ll look out for them.” He took a sword from one of the guards and gave it to me.
I gripped the blade with my fingers, and the King sat down. He knew I had to do it, or the people would stop trusting me. I panicked and looked out at the crowd, not knowing what to do.
